Pants: Destroyed at All Nations Backpackers, Melbourne.

Monday, November 17th, 2008

You know you are drunk when you are peering into the Backpacker hostels’ liquor licence trying to figure out if it is technically legal to buy another round of shots after the bar has closed and you already know that you can’t.

It was at this exact moment that Tyler, All Nations Backpackers Hostels’ resident Van Wildest, in all his wisdom decided that he should sneak up behind me and pull down my pants. On a scale of 1 – 10 of outrageousness, a little stunt like this would register in decimals I must concurr. However a combination of subtle (yet for this episode, integral) precautionary measures have been in place over the last few weeks related to my belt. My belt is a little old, so I have made some adjustments to ensure it maintains more than enough strength to hold up my pants.

I guess our Melbourne backpacker Tyler has a bit more strength than he thought, I guess my pants were a bit older, I guess my belt adjustments are a little too good. But because the man grabbed me by the back pockets and yanked them at an extreme pace with force, the integrity of my trousers was destroyed, and he ripped them clean in half. The back half to be precise. I was left stranded at the window, with my new tight white undies on full display.

But when the spotlight is burning, you fight fire with fire. I took the shredded fabric, tied it around my head and had an absolute belter of a Sunday session at a backpackers Bar across the road. It was a three figure subtraction from this backpackers savings account, and the last thing anyone saw of el gRInGO was the man galloping off and into the darkness. Don’t be concerned, just LOVE ALL NATIONS BACKPACKERS!

Heaps of beer at Nomads Industry Backpackers Oktoberfest!

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

What a great day at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel in Melbourne! To celebrate October there was a big party last week. In Germany they throw big Oktoberfest parties, so we did! Decorations were stunning and everyone had a good time. Our outside deck turned into a beer garden and the Barbie was on fire. Bratwurst and sauerkraut at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel makes me think about being in Europe. We even had a dance contest. Josh won with his outstanding dance, he convinced Nick totally so he won the prize. I really love being here at Nomads Industry, partying around and meeting up with all the different people.

Come over to party, just contact us by sending an e-mail to bookings@nomadsindustry.com. Don’t hesitate to party!

Nomads Industry Melbourne, Trivia, Fun, Backpackers, Beer

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Tuesday trivia night at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel in Melbourne, pretty cool. It’s cool to see that everyone is so fanatic to win, trying to win the jugs of beer like they will die otherwise.

I’m here now for two weeks, for those who haven’t read my last blog. I’m Annemiek, from Holland doing an internship for 5 months at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel. I’m working at the reception as well at the bar. I study tourism management and for the next five months I will make a blog about my big city life in Melbourne. At the moment I’m in my 3rd week and I already love Melbourne. Friendly people and lots and lost of things to do. It’s a big city but the nature is everywhere.

The last week was pretty exhausting for me, learning all the new stuff. Yesterday I did my first reception shift by my own, I liked it. It was the night shift and I survived. I’m now also fully trained at evacuating guests out of the building, the fire alarm went off 3 times in two days. The first time the maintenance guy made a mistake. Second time some guy pushed the alarm button and the last time the alarm went off because of a hair straighter that wasn’t switched off. The second time the alarm went off it was 4am so everyone was out on the streets in there pijamas. But we are doing cool now, no worries!

Sightseeing that’s one thing I don’t do much at the moment, because I’m pretty exhausted. But last weekend we went on sightseeing again. We went to the Melbourne museum. We got in for free because we are students, really nice. I saw my first kangaroo, shameless that it was a dead one (made me think of Skippy). The spiders were the animals that were actually alive and we freaked out. Anne got cautious of it. Further on the museum there was a rainforest, we walked through it but it wasn’t that excited as we thought it would be. We are planning to go to IMAX theatre as well, it’s a cinema where you can watch movies in 3D. I watch a movie in 3D once in Disneyland, and I was screaming like a little child, so we will see.

Talking with guests at the Nomads Industry reception is really nice. Especially when they want to book tours that I have done, then you are extra excited to tell how awesome it is. I’m now all time advising people to go up the sky deck of the Eureka tower and enjoy the great view. But the great ocean road is still my favorite thing to do around Melbourne so far. Over about 2 weeks we want to go to Philip Island to spot some penguins, living ones (just for the record).

Thursday I’m turning 19. Like it’s my birthday, were gonna party like it’s my birthday! Hollie (reception colleague) asked me to go with her to a concert of a band named Kora. It’s an New Zealand band, so I searched their music on youtube and I’m already excited to go. It’s in hi five café just a 5 minute walk from Nomads Industry Backpackers to Swanston street. The temperature is not so high so that’s a good distance to walk.

Two more days to go, waiting for the fanmail to come (and two more days waiting to eat delicious chocolate cake). You guys here from me soon, hopefully I did some sightseeing by then.

Cheers! Annemiek from Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel in Melbourne

Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel’s interns day out

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Hi there!

We are the new interns at the Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel in Melbourne. We are following a tourism and recreation management course, that’s why we are doing our internship abroad. Normally we live in the east of Holland, but now we are here at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel for five months, so it’s a pretty big change.

Thursday the 28th of August we arrived at Melbourne after flying 21hours. It was a long long flight, but we had fun with the entertainment set. The first days we had jetlag, but it’s getting better now. Monday we had an introduction day at Nomads Industry, it went well and we are all very excited.

Tuesday the 2nd of September we went on Bunyip’s Great Ocean Road tour, it was excellent! Touring all day in a mini-bus through the beautiful landscape, ocean view all the time. In Holland it’s very flat, so for us it was like riding through the mountains. Lots of surfers on the water, pretty cool to see them catching the high waves.

The tour guide told a lot about the Great Ocean Road, it’s history and the nature. We also had a walk through the rainforest, the name was picked well it started raining like it was autumn in Holland, but it was very nice though.

After the rainforest we drove down to the twelve apostles, or fifteen or ten everybody says something different. Our guide told us that there were actually fifteen, so there’s no hesitation anymore, the guide is right. There are 15 apostles along the coast. Very impressive to see, it is still a strange idea that, if we come back over about 20 years there won’t be fifteen anymore.

We also took a look at London bridge, it was like two cliffs that were falling apart. After we saw the London bridge that really had fallen down, we hit the road again backwards Melbourne. It was a long trip, but absolutely worth the whole time during it! For us Australia is like divers now, a big city and a beautiful landscape to discover.

We certainly are excited now for doing more tours, next month it’s a good time to go to see some penguins at Phillip island. But first Saturday climbing the Eureka tower (read: taking the elevator) and enjoy the view of Melbourne.

Cheers (yeah we are learning)

Marlou, Anne, Annemiek from Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel in Melbourne.

Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel staff party

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel staff proved they can party just as hard as our Melbourne Backpackers Hostel guests as they cut loose last Wednesday night at the Industry staff party.

The Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel team kicked the night off with a Jaegertrain, Nomads Industry’s signature drink, before settling in for the long haul at a local pub.

General manager Penny plied her staff with copious amounts of wine and champagne, and as the night wore on general debauchery ensued..

Encouraged by the Penathon, the Nomads Industry team exhibited some seriously unruly behaviour, typical of backpackers hostel staff, where hidden desires were revealed..

…and a few misadventures later, certain staff were caught doing the walk of shame through the hostel, much to the amusement of the receptionist suffering on the early morning shift.

A great night was had by all, and some staff even managed to recover in time for the legendary Bombastic Thursday Night at Industry Bar and Lounge.

If you’re out for a killer time look no further than Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel; with zany staff and outrageous drink specials you’re bound to have an entertaining night out!
