Would you call a Camel beautiful? Auckland Backpackers say yes!

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

The New Zealand Herald ran an article today about the December Mazayin Dhafra Camel Festival, held in the western desert region of Abu Dhabi.

The Camel Festival involves a beauty contest for our furry friends, they are judged on the quality of their whiskers, nose condition, length and posture of the neck, the shape of the hump, shininess of the coat and the length of the toe parting. Sounds crazy!

Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Hostel also has some fine looking backpacker friends, although not of the Camel species! Come down and visit our downtown Auckland Backpackers Bar & Hostel and check us out!

Pie eating at Nomads Industry Melbourne

Eating pie contest!

Because it was Bobby’s birthday there was a big eating pie contest at Nomads Industry backpackers hostel in Melbourne. I know it doesn’t sounds logical, having a pie contest on your birthday but it was great fun. Who can say: ‘I got a pie contest on my birthday’?

The 2 important rules: the person who eats the most pie wins the money, first one out has to scull a litre of milk. Mark is the big pie master from Industry Backpackers now on, beating everyone with an impressive amount of 24 pies. His legendary words were: ‘I could have eaten more’. Charlie our cooking star was not a star at sculling his litre of milk. His legendary words didn’t make it. (see pictures below).

Go Charly!

Cheers

Nomads Industry Backpackers visit little, little penguins!

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

What a time, what a time. I’m here at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel for almost two months already and I decided I love Melbourne, Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel, Australia and doing tours! (and all the things I forgot to wrote down). I also decided to go brown instead of blonde. Brunettes have more fun? Yes, read below!

The nobbies

Because I don’t want to get lazy and want to discover everything around and in Melbourne I try to go on a tour every two weeks when I’m here at Nomads Industry Backpackers. Last week I did the Philip island tour. The great ocean road tour that I did before was great and so was the Philip island tour. Seeing all those animals that are normally in the zoo in Holland without a fence was really great. It was funny though that I was allowed to feed the kangaroo but I wasn’t allowed to feed the goat. Strange dutchies as we are, feeding goats all the time.

First we went to a winery, I felt a bit out of place there. Everyone was tasting the wine as they were professional wine tasters. But we were just drinking the wine (wine is to drink, that’s what we thought). After the great wine experience up to Maru wildlife centre. Seeing all the Australian animals was cool. The first time I saw all these they were dead already in the Melbourne museum. Marlou and Anne took care of the feeding part of the tour, they fed all the animals while I was making pretty pictures and being careful not to get attacked.

After all of the antipasti (and the pizza) we went to the Nobbies. When we arrived at the Nobbies, the wind almost blew us away. It was a nice view though, the Nobbies and the rough sea getting to each other. After the Nobbies (the main dish) up to a cold cold dessert, the penguin parade. It already started raining and we didn’t brought a rain coat (we are in Australia?). It was touristic but that didn’t mattered.

The penguin parade was a cold, fun, cold and unforgettable experience. When in your life you are watching penguins heading back to their homes out of the sea? Exactly that’s why it was so special. We weren’t aloud to make pictures, because it damages the penguins eyes and I think the experience is away then. You have to check it our yourself and see the penguins hopping on land group by group. Visit Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel, Melbourne and jump on this tour, Adorable!

Cheers!

Backpackers Rafting at Serpent Hostel, Cairns

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Yes, you’ve read it right; rafting AT Serpent Backpackers Hostel….. If you didn’t know yet, we are crazy at Nomads Serpent Backpackers Cairns!! Rafting in our resort pool, who makes these things up?

Geoff from R&R Rafting came to entertain us with a raft. It sure was a funny sight to see everybody in full gear in our pool. Full gear makes everybody look sexy! A whole competition was set up with swimming races, paddling races, quickly spinning the raft around (good way to get sick) and throwing each other out of the raft.

Everybody was very fanatic but it was still good sportsmanship. Tired from all the exercise a nice cool beer was welcomed with a loud cheer!

Lots more fun things are coming up at Nomads Serpent Backpackers Hostel, if you want to know more you can contact Serpent Backpackers Resort staff.

Serpent Backpacker staff jelly wrestle at Cairns Beach House Hostel

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

The long anticipated night was there; the Jelly Wrestling at Nomads Cairns Beach House.
The night was sponsored by Magic Network with a bus pass for Northern and Southern islands as a first prize! Second prize was just as awesome, a bus pass for one of the islands. Definitely worth entering! First up was Nomads Backpackers staff member Angelina who gave it a good go but unfortunately didn’t make it through to the next round. The second couple were a bit scary; those girls really went for it!

Than it was finally time for Marlies. Our busdriver from Nomads Serpent Backpackers Hostel was representing us and ready to kick ass! It was a good fight but her small feet ruined it a bit. The goal of the wrestling was to get the other persons sock off, best out of 3. But hers just came off by itself so that was 0-1. The second 2 tries were tied and in the end the tiredness showed and she just lost the last battle. We are still proud of her!

Do you want to meet our hero or challenge her to a wrestling match at Nomads Serpent Hostel yourself? Don’t be shy and email Nomads Serpent Backpackers Resort!!!

Sydney Maze Backpackers Have fun with Ladies Underwear!

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I saw some sights on Tuesday that no one should have to see! It was another night that the backpackers from Maze Hostel went a bit wild.

Alan, Alan and Chris are fairly new to Maze Hostel but were not shy when it came to dressing up in womans clothes in order to get an extra free drink at World Bar. I thoroughly enjoyed doing their make-up! However they went one step further and wore ladies pink french knickers! We all got a flash, as did everyone in the bar and on the street for that matter - lucky us!?!
