Danielle’s farewell at Nomads Serpent Backpackers

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

We at Serpent backpackers are so sad; Danielle has been gone for almost 2 weeks already, but it was just too painful to write anything.

Working with us in the bar for over 4 months, and all of a sudden she is gone…. How do we deal with that?  The only way to say farewell was of course a big party at the Nomads Serpent Backpackers Bar where everybody joined in. People were clinging on to Danielle; please don’t go, crazy dances were performed and there were even serenade’s for her. The bar crew; Steve (bar manager), Andy (entertainer) and sweet Danielle worked their last night together and it was definitely a night not to forget!

Luckily we have 2 new great bar girls at Nomads Serpent Backpackers Cairns: Marlon and a new Danielle. These 2 Dutchies sure know how to party, if you want to join in, we will be waiting for you at the bar:D

I Shot the Sheriff… Well not really

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

… But I did get some great shots at Nomads Capital’s Hostel Bar, Blend. The Jaeger Train was in full force at Blend Bar. We lined them all up and we were just hoping the domino effect would work all the way down. :)

The good news is that it did. The bad news is that there wasn’t any left for me after all the crazy backpackers we’ve got staying at Nomads Capital Hostel got to them. No matter, there’s always the shotski! You and three of the new best mates you’ve just met at Nomads Capital Backpackers can try one of these for just $20. It’s good times bro! :D

Don’t forget about ladies night! Nomads Capital’s Hostel Bar Blend would like to invite you to our wonderful Thursday Ladies Night! Here’s what you’ll get…

- One COMPLIMENTARY glass of bubbles with very voucher, (these will be handed to all of you on the night)
- FREE Tapas!

as well as $4 House Drinks all night long!

So gentlemen come on down to Nomads Capital and mix ‘n mingle with all the beautiful girls out there! We like it when you get into the fun!

But hey if you’re not into the whole crazy shots thing grab a couple of your mates and come on over to our Wellington Backpackers Hostel for a great dinner! Our chefs can whip you up something real yum from our fabulous menu. We’ve got room for the whole gang. If you’ve got a special day coming up, talk to the staff at Nomads Capital Backpackers and we’ll section off our special fireplace space.

SEE YOU SOON ;)

Thrill seekers from Nomads Serpent Backpackers Cairns

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

The weather is great in Cairns and it is a good time to get a tan laying by the Nomads Serpent hostel swimming pool. But you can also go a bit CRAZY!!

Marnick, one of our Dutch interns, was representing Nomads Serpent Backpackers Cairns this week on an agent 2day getaway. Going down to Mission Beach, spending the night at Scotty’s BeachHouse and getting up early the next day to go rafting with the guys from Raging Thunder.

Conquering the Tully river with its grade 3-4 rapids it was a day that can’t be topped easily. Add in some rock jumping, amazing barbecue and gorgeous weather and you can’t go wrong.

Also a good option is to jump from a perfectly good aeroplane….. You must think we’re completely nuts here at Nomads Serpent Backpackers and maybe we are! But the nervous feeling in your stomach when you go up in the plane, seeing the earth get further and further away, the anticipation growing as the time to jump out gets closer. Screaming your way down while taking in the beautiful view and finally gliding through the air catching your breath again. It’s just something you have to do at least once in your life!

We from Nomads Serpent Backpackers Hostel would love to tell you more about this incredible adreneline rush while skydiving or rafting. Just email us at Nomads Serpent Backpackers.
Maybe we’ll even join you :D

Nomads Industry Melbourne, Trivia, Fun, Backpackers, Beer

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Tuesday trivia night at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel in Melbourne, pretty cool. It’s cool to see that everyone is so fanatic to win, trying to win the jugs of beer like they will die otherwise.

I’m here now for two weeks, for those who haven’t read my last blog. I’m Annemiek, from Holland doing an internship for 5 months at Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel. I’m working at the reception as well at the bar. I study tourism management and for the next five months I will make a blog about my big city life in Melbourne. At the moment I’m in my 3rd week and I already love Melbourne. Friendly people and lots and lost of things to do. It’s a big city but the nature is everywhere.

The last week was pretty exhausting for me, learning all the new stuff. Yesterday I did my first reception shift by my own, I liked it. It was the night shift and I survived. I’m now also fully trained at evacuating guests out of the building, the fire alarm went off 3 times in two days. The first time the maintenance guy made a mistake. Second time some guy pushed the alarm button and the last time the alarm went off because of a hair straighter that wasn’t switched off. The second time the alarm went off it was 4am so everyone was out on the streets in there pijamas. But we are doing cool now, no worries!

Sightseeing that’s one thing I don’t do much at the moment, because I’m pretty exhausted. But last weekend we went on sightseeing again. We went to the Melbourne museum. We got in for free because we are students, really nice. I saw my first kangaroo, shameless that it was a dead one (made me think of Skippy). The spiders were the animals that were actually alive and we freaked out. Anne got cautious of it. Further on the museum there was a rainforest, we walked through it but it wasn’t that excited as we thought it would be. We are planning to go to IMAX theatre as well, it’s a cinema where you can watch movies in 3D. I watch a movie in 3D once in Disneyland, and I was screaming like a little child, so we will see.

Talking with guests at the Nomads Industry reception is really nice. Especially when they want to book tours that I have done, then you are extra excited to tell how awesome it is. I’m now all time advising people to go up the sky deck of the Eureka tower and enjoy the great view. But the great ocean road is still my favorite thing to do around Melbourne so far. Over about 2 weeks we want to go to Philip Island to spot some penguins, living ones (just for the record).

Thursday I’m turning 19. Like it’s my birthday, were gonna party like it’s my birthday! Hollie (reception colleague) asked me to go with her to a concert of a band named Kora. It’s an New Zealand band, so I searched their music on youtube and I’m already excited to go. It’s in hi five café just a 5 minute walk from Nomads Industry Backpackers to Swanston street. The temperature is not so high so that’s a good distance to walk.

Two more days to go, waiting for the fanmail to come (and two more days waiting to eat delicious chocolate cake). You guys here from me soon, hopefully I did some sightseeing by then.

Cheers! Annemiek from Nomads Industry Backpackers Hostel in Melbourne

Nomads Fusion Backpackers and Fat Camel Hostels ‘Sales Trip’

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

On Tuesday the 2nd of September Nomads Fusion Backpackers and Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers went on a 2 day ‘Sales Trip’ up to the Bay of Islands.

Boi represented the Fat Camel and Nadine Fusion. Not to forget ‘Clarence’ the camel, who lives in the Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers and was the ‘ice braker’ for all our visits.

The purpose of this trip was supposedly work, but Clarence had other ideas and he flirted up a storm with all the agents that the two Auckland Backpackers Hostel staff met.

Nomads Serpent Backpackers Cairns visit the Amateurs

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Three of the staff members of Nomads Serpent Backpackers Cairns got all dressed up to go to the Cairns Amateurs. A big yearly horse racing event and definitely a place to be for a fun day out, placing a bet and most of all; a good reason to get dressed up!  As it was the first time for us, we were a bit at a loss as to how things went.

Luckily our friendly taxi driver gave us some advice for the betting; his bet was on Stage Shaker in the Cairns cup, which was the main race of the day. As we had no clue which horse to go with, we decided to place some money on Stage Shaker as well. And we were so close with taking some money home to the Serpent Cairns Backpackers, our horse just finished second….

Too bad, but no time to be sad as we were strolling around, sipping on a nice cool beer watching all the people in their beautiful outfits walking by.

Yes, we from Nomads Serpent Backpackers Cairns know where to go! You should come and stay with us and join us to the next event! For information or bookings, just email Serpent Backpackers Resort!

Kia Ora! Hola! Bom Dia!

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Nomads Capital Backpackers and Staff were all in Blend Bar on Saturday night so I hope you got all dressed up in your best black outfit, headed on down to Nomads Capital Hostel Bar Blend and cheered on the mighty All Blacks for their fabulous victory over the Wallabies! I know I certainly did.

I may not know much about rugby but those boys kick some serious butt, we just won’t talk about the World Cup because we’ve won the Tri-Nations… AGAIN! Maybe all of that throat slitting in the Haka was just too much intimidation.

Well if you weren’t supporting the boys on Saturday with our Wellington Backpackers, I hope you made it out to Nomads Capital Backpackers Bar Blend on Friday night, cause if you didn’t you missed one hell of a party that went well into the wee hours of the morning!

If you did miss it don’t worry because Nomads Capital Backpackers Bar is doing it all over again in two weeks! 2-4-1 Corona’s and Fernet Branca deals on top of our fantastic drink menu.
