Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Hostel preparing for World Environment Day
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Hostel in Auckland is preparing itself for World Environment Day; 5th June. New Zealand is hosting this worldwide event this year so we’re all very excited to be helping to make a difference.
World Environment Day 2008 is all about reducing your carbon footprint.

Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Hostel are doing their bit on the 5th June by having
- a no lift day (Auckland backpackers with heavy bags will still be able to use the lift - but we will be encouraging everyone to use the stairs that day)
- a no printing day
- a candle-lit evening in the reception area and the Fat Camel backpackers bar
This is all in addition to the measures we already have in place and / or are working towards…
- signs next to every light switch encouraging people to switch them off when they leave the room
- signs above every sink recommending that our Auckland backpackers switch the tap off whilst brushing their teeth
- signs on every kettle asking the backpackers to fill the kettle with only as much water as they need
- recycling bins in each and every apartment (these are due to arrive next week)
- recycling boxes for all used and unused phonecards and drink vouchers at the reception desk
- we’re reducing our paper usage by using chalkboards more effectively
We’re also raising money so that we can plant trees to offset our carbon footprint. If you’d like to donate money or if you’d like to come with Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Hostel Staff and guests to plant trees, please email us at the youth hostel.
If you have any other ideas that we can implement at Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Hostel please email us as we’re very keen to do everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint.
Cairns Backpackers and Sex and the City!!!
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008The Nomads Serpent Backpackers Hostel in Cairns is getting geared up for the Sex and the City Premier happening next Wednesday night in The Serpent Backpackers Bar.
Its gonna be a sexy night with pink popcorn and yummy cocktails. Teams of 4 Cairns Backpackers will duel it out in a very racy Trivia Game, and the best team will win tickets to see the opening of Sex and the City.
Steve, in the Cairns Serpent Backpackers Bar, makes a mean Cosmoplition and he’s putting them on special for one night only at $5.00!!! Boys, there will be lots of ladies attending, so make sure you also come down to the Serpent Backpackers Bar for the ShinDig of the month! In the words of the ladies from Sex and the City…”Vodka, rum, gin, gay, bi, straight…this party will be a veritable pu pu platter of sexual orientation”.

Nomads Fat Camel Backpacker staff all having babies?
Sunday, May 25th, 2008Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Staff have been discussing kids and when they were going to have them. Davy our travel / reception / occasional barman has said that there is no chance of him having kids until he’s at least 40.
However he then stated that he has been considering adopting one of the orphans from the chinese earthquake. Good on him!
The Auckland Backpackers Hostel accountant though asked him how he would prove to anyone that he was a real man if he doesn’t have his own biological kids. (As Davy said, he only needs to prove that to his girlfriend!)
Good on you Davy for seriously considering helping one of the many kids affected in the devasting earthquake. And we think you’ve definitely proved you’re a man if you adopt one of those kids!
If you’d like to donate money to help the survivors, visit this website…
